Not mentioning the word transfer in the title because there may not be any.
I expect us to release players and sign largely free agents and loans. Parrott, Cannon, Delap, Fernandez, Onomah set to leave and contracts also up for Brady, Woodburn, Johnson, Cunningham and Olosunde. That would leave us with 14 regular squad players two of which long term injuries plus our youth players. I’m half expecting a bid for Ben Whiteman and Freddie Woodman.
The striking situation is the immediate concern. We scored 9 more goals in season 2010-11 when relegated from the championship. With two long term injuries, this is our immediate worry. Thank goodness for Tom Cannon but he may well play a role of Everton next year against us.
As usual guys, thoughts and preferences below. I’ll pin the thread after our last game.

Depression? Come on we’ve had a half decent season. A lot worse off than us that’s for sure.

Absolute squad overhaul that I am very worried about. We need mobility in defence so I would let Bauer and Cunningham go to make room for a couple of mobile defenders.
We obviously need an RWB and LWB. Will we bring 1 LWB an and either keep Brady or have Slater more involved?
Midfield will need some attention unless we manage to keep hold of DJ and Onomah. Woodburn should be nowhere near an extension and shows how weak our current squad is that he is still getting minutes. Has he done anything of note since the Rovers game.
Strikers is pretty depressing, 2 long term injured strikers on the books, god knows what we’re going to do here.
There are plenty of quality OoC players out there but they will get gobbled up by the ‘bigger boys.’ As daws has said on another thread, decent quality loan players aren’t likely to be released until a few games into the season and I’m sure this will be heavily used again.
It will be interesting to see how the squad looks on the 1st game of the season but I worry Cunningham, Brady and Woodburn will be offered new deals to boost the squad by 3 members that won’t need replacing.

It's infintely easier to say who is not good enough than identify feasible replacements.
OUT. Clearly Woodburn should never have been signed, Brady is unreliable (I don't rate anyway bec. the nos of times he gives the ball away), Cunningham is injury prone, Bauer not up to it , far too slow. I also don't rate any of the youngsters with one exception, Mawene. (Lowe never mentioned his decision to bring on Leigh yesterday...only noticeable contribution was a cross that brought jeers from the home support it was so far out of play).
For me DJ can go as well unless he accepts a much reduced wage...he's done a great job over the years but he has simply not pulled his weight this season and his current wage bill can be used more productively.
Ledson belongs in L1 or 2.
KEEP...only ones I would choose to keep are Woodman, Storey, Hughes, Lindsay, Potts (OK he is very ordinary footballer but he is a decent athlete and on his day can make significant contributions), McCann, Whiteman, Riis (can't see Evans coming back with that injury), Browne, Cornell (alright when he's played) and Mawene as well as Diaby (he has a mistake in him but he has something the other defenders have not got, pace and the ability to bring the ball out of defence). Rest can go for me.
Need RB, RWB, LWB, defensive cental midfielder, a no 10, two strikers and at least one proper winger.
That gives a first team squad of 20...I'd take it to 24 with loans and that's it
Can't see Onomah staying but would like it if he did...and Alvaro.
Cannon will end up with Everton.
I wouldn't mind Delap....there's a player in there. Only forward we have had with some physical strength besides Evans.

Get rid of Ledson, Woodburn, Hughes, try and re sign Cannon and Parrott, keep Whiteman ,McCann and DJ, and Otts, Storey and Lindley, keep Brady and Cornell and BFG? Make a cheeky bid for Stockton and try for an up and coming L1 striker or have a try for Wells.

Got to keep Woodman, Whiteman, Browne, Potts, McCann, DJ ( on reduced terms) Storey, Onomah, Cornell, Diaby as do feel he has a lot to offer, have enjoyed a few cameos from Brady - absolute class at time with his deliveries - but not consistent enough. Never been a fan of Lindsay, Hughes a sick note, Ledson a headless chicken, 🙏🤞for a full recovery and Riis returns ready for next season Would love Cannon and Alvaro to be loaned for another season, and I do agree, could well be a player in Delap Don’t know enough about the young lads, but certainly got to say letting Dolan go was the right decision!!
Really got to concentrate on forwards, could do worse than a cheeky bid for Ashley Barnes ( out of contract) or Jay Rodriguez to replace Ched, Cole Stockton now scoring again could be worth a punt or even rescue Jerry Yates from his sentence at Gloomfield. A real risk but Macauley Langstaff from Notts County -Scored 46 goals from open play in non league this season, worth a punt, could be another Jamie avast in the making
Oh and let’s retrieve Ben Pearson from his Bournemouth torment

I can see Whitman getting sold. Last year of his contract. But wouldn’t accept anything less that £5 million. Since we paid £2 mil I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

Isn't this because
a) only Woodman and Whiteman would command a trasfer fee (and a fit Riis) b) the club is not planning on spending anything on transfer fees?
The club's track record in previous summers makes me cynical.....but what we now have left (and I believe DJ is on his way to Stoke) is such obvious relegation fodder that, for PR< some extraordinary good signings are required this summer.
I'd be happy to see Diaby stay..../unlike the other defenders he has an ability to run. There's a chronic need to inject some pace into the team.

I heard that DJ was bound for Celtic, apparently we offered a new two year deal @ £15k / week. It was muted Celtic offered similar contract but @ £20k / week

My thoughts on the season
Performances: A real mixed bag, some good, some bad, some ugly and many very mediocre. I'm really not sure if this is down to confidence, ability, quality of the other side, game plan, management or a combination of several. My gut feeling is its a combination of several of the factors above, however, I do feel there are two significant issues, quality in depth on the field and performance consistency
Players; I think we all need to accept they are very average, if not lower than average in terms of quality throughout the squad, having said that an average team playing at 90% of their ability will stay in this league, the key is to provide that consistency and try to build on the squad. Too many of our current players drift in and out of a game and to not provide high performances week in week out. We also have no play makers, the only one who seems to run at defenders is Alvaro and I doubt he will be with us next season
Management Team I backed off Lowe a while back now and all things considered I'm prepared to give him my support going into the summer and early next season based on the following. The quality of what he has had to work with The opportunity to spend money or not The overall set up at PNE I may be wrong but I think his "stock" is high elsewhere in the game. He gets air time on Sky, and I think "others" in the game think he has done ok with what he has got. It would not surprise me to see him leave to another club. If you doubt this, consider....who would sack Rodgers at Leicester and appoint Smith, who would sack Potter and go back to Frank....desperate football clubs do such things
Remember the Ferguson story and Mark Robbins, maybe RL will come good.
However, I, like others think he will be gone by Xmas if not before blaming the club for not matching his ambition.
Big battle next season, but as ever I'll renew and regret!

I would like to see some element of a Plan, not a half-baked cheap recruitment of injury-prone players. This means RL must have an input into who we recruit. This entails having a balanced but small Squad, enhanced with whatever youngsters we can Loan from Premier League Clubs. If it were me, I would start by examining our weaknesses, albeit it would be quicker to examine our strengths. We need a RB for flexibility of system. Given RL's liking for a back 3, aRB/Central Defender with pace would the answer. Must be some about. We are crying for a Sean Gregan to play with Whiteman. 2 Pacy Wingers who can cross a ball, Potts tries but cannot cross &, whilst Brady can cross I think I am faster @ 80. A No. 10 or DJ if he is around & hopefully Riis is back & fit. That's only 5/6 players, which can be supported from the Wages of the players released - in the case of Browne & DJ that's £34k per wk. Incidentally, I hate to think what Sunderland were paying for Diallo & the PSG player. There are players about & the relegated Teams may wish to dispose of expensive players. A small Squad with quality + Loanees is what we should be looking at - not to mention an Academy!

TYhe notion of Woodburn getting a 2 years contract makes me angry.....he is so obviously lightweight and not Champ standard.
DJ position is understandable...this season he has just not been worth his pay packet.
Brady going, good.

I know your Avatar is The BLack Prince but I was at Leeds the Season they got promoted to Div 1, as it was then. There was an incident in that match when Dawson, who used to stay outside the box for Corners & then charge in, was despatched 3 rows up into the Stands by Charlton. Lethal & he would have been sent off these days. Not wishing to go back to those days but we have Pussies playing football these days, writhing around/screaming as though they have been mortally wounded, crying etc etc. I said at the weekend that Frank should be in charge of the Shakespeare Company because they are such good Actors! No wonder that they have scored more goals from Freekicks than anyone else. Football has lost its soul. Hope you agree.

As far as |i am concerned Walburgh football lost its soul when it ceased to be a sport and became a business. You can debate the date.....anytime between the abolition of the max wage to the creation of the Prem League......but what particularly irks me is the fact that with Prem parachute payments any notion of a level playing field, with clubs relying on their own resources, has flown out of the window.
The international influence hasn't helped either...at least fans fought back with opposition to the European Super League.
On the pitch the game has simply changed......and whilst it has lost the physicality and excitement of muddy pitches and lax refereeing in other ways it has improved. The boots are infinitely better, and so are the balls and pitches. The game is a lot faster.
I don't particularly long for the time when the likes of tho Villa fbs (Aitken and ? can't recall the other thug) came to Deepdale and kicked everything that moved but for the days when you could come up against anyone and at least think that on your day you could match them.
Regrettably clubs like PNE, generating £13m turnover, are now minnows in the game cf ones with £500 and £600m turnovers......and, yet, remarkably, they may still have 20% of the so-called 'big clubs' home support. But that is the perenicious influence of business, partic TV. As Bob Dylan said 'money doen't talk, it swears'.
Getting back on topic shouldn't the retained list be released any time now?

Ashley Barnes leaving Burnley The player Lowe was referring to after the game on Saturday about talking to a player who was a real handful and his agent was at the game on Monday. He’s off to a club that can pay him more though sadly.
