Russell Kenneth Alexander Martin (born 4 January 1986) is a professional football manager and former player. He is the head coach of Championship club Swansea City.

A former defender, Martin began his playing career at Brighton & Hove Albion's youth academy. He established himself at Wycombe Wanderers in 2004, before moving to Peterborough United in 2008. Martin joined Norwich City in 2010 and made 309 appearances for the club. He then had brief spells with Rangers, Walsall and Milton Keynes Dons. During his playing career, Martin won five promotions (including two Premier League promotions) and was named in the 2014–15 Championship Team of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association.[3]

Although born in Brighton, England, Martin played in 29 internationals for Scotland. He moved into management in 2019 with Milton Keynes Dons and became head coach of Swansea City in 2021.

Martin grew up supporting Leeds United.

Dave Whelan broke his leg at Wembley connection

Roberto Martinez played for Swansea and Wigan also managed both Dave Whelan owned Wigan and broke his leg in the Cup Final apparently not that he ever tells everyone

Glaswegian Rock band the Sensational Alex Harvey Band formed in 1972 with the aforementioned Alex Harvey, did a cover of Delilah made famous by Welsh warbler Tom Jones, that is not the connection to Swansea however this is Alex had a brother called Les who played in the band Stone the Crows whose lead singer Maggie Bell who sang the vocal on the Taggert show, now this is were Swansea comes in
3 May 1972 Stone the Crows were playing Swansea Top Rank when Les Harvey touched a microphone that was not earthed, literally Les died on stage.

In The Dressing Room

Ryan Lowe should be able to choose from the same group of players who travelled to The Den to take on Millwall last weekend.

Everybody seemingly came through that game unscathed, with Liam Delap also returning from illness off the bench.

This game will come too soon for Ali McCann, while North End will also be without Alan Browne, Ched Evans, Emil Riis and Greg Cunningham.

In his second season in charge of Swansea City, Russell Martin has got his side playing the possession-based style of football which he wanted to implement, and it now seems to be reaping rewards.

They head into Wednesday night having won four of their last five fixtures – keeping clean sheets in four of those matches – and they have closed what was a hefty gap to the Play-Off spots to seven points.

As good as their current form is, their season has ultimately been hurt by a few difficult patches, such as the one which preceded their current unbeaten streak which saw them lose seven out of nine Championship games.

One To Watch

Often operating as a sole striker, Joël Piroe remains not only Swansea’s key threat, but one of the biggest in the division.

After hitting 22 last season in his maiden campaign in England, the Dutch forward has got 16 to his name so far this term.

Two of those came in a recent away victory over Wigan Athletic, while he was also on the scoresheet in the Swans’ dramatic victory over their closest rivals Cardiff City at the beginning of the month.

Oliver Langford will take charge of his fourth Preston North End game of the season on Wednesday evening.

The three so far have been home fixtures at Deepdale, but North End have previously enjoyed themselves on the road with Langford in the middle, with notable victories coming in the 2018/19 season against Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.

So far this campaign, Langford has taken charge of 26 matches, showing 95 yellow cards and one red.

A couple of extras 30 years ago was the game postponed 15 minutes before kick off, two days after this rocked up at Warbreck House for the first time, the game was played about 10 days later therefore couldn't go.
A week on Frday will be leaving Warbreck for the last time, being turned into housing which happens to every place I've worked at over the past 48 years so therE is a bit of coincidence with the Swansea game
