It sounds like a match made in heaven but in the early 90's it turned nasty for several seasons for some reason. The rivalry increased, as did the violence and for many years this increased. The LEP made it front page headlines. It seems to have calmed down somewhat but it still lingers. Older heads remembering the 'good' old days maybe... Wigan are currently fighting for their survival in the championship while some would have you believe we are already in a relegation battle. What will happen on Saturday? IMO , it's going to be a tasty affair and it wouldn't surprise me to see a sending off. North End have to be on the front foot and an early goal will calm the nerves plus quiten the groaners. There wont be big numbers travelling from Wigan as usual and even less due to there being no trains. Apparently the club are putting on a variety of busses, ranging from luxury to standard double decker's. My prediction is a wild 3-2 win but I'm never right as those in the pred league will know.

When they beat us at home, think it was 2-4 circa 2004, that is one of the best sides and performances I have seen at Deepdale. They went onto promotion under Paul Jewel.
I'm hoping for a game full of positive play from PNE, going forward with intent and a desire to win the game. I cant imagine his selection, but lets hope for 3 points and a little closer to safety.

I Worked in St Helens for a while during their glory years and it added to my dislike of Wigan, just in my office there were 6 season ticket holders that only went to the 6 or 7 big games as the season tickets were so cheap. Back in the day i used to love going to the old Wigan ground with the muddy hill for a terrace with a cow shed at teh top for a bit of cover..
I cant see us winning any game at the moment, nothing in our play suggests we can score a goal without Ched (sad statement in itself). Im just hoping for another point, injuries and suspensions will make the team selection interesting.
FW Bambo, LL Cunningham (assuming Hughes is out)
Potts Ledson Alvaro Browne DJ
Cannon and Parrot

Tricky game. Playing bottom of the league at home, won’t take long for the crowd to get restless, everyone expecting us to win. When in reality they’re not a bad side, new manager and they’ve picked up some good results away.
Scab a 1-0 win.

Got 0-0 written all over it...so it won't be.
Anything less than a win is another nail.....but the reality is that we had an infinitely better strike force in L1 with Garner and Beckford than we do now (better side at Wembley than now).
Which would you rather have:
Johnstone Clarke Wright Huntington Woods Welsh Kilkenny Johnson Gallagher Beckford Garner
or 71s likely team above
Talk about go backwards. Not many options though.Personally rather than waste two places at the front I'd opt for wasting one and get Brady in the side and try and win the game breaking from midfield.
FW Bambo, Lindsay Cunningham (assuming Hughes is out) Brady Browne Ledson DJ Alvaro Potts Cannon
Gone for Cannon at the front..although he is hopeless at holding up the ball he does have a yard of pace.

They were good in league one, majority of them had a chance in the championship and didn’t do much more than what the current crop are doing now.
How come none of them played at a better level if they were so much better? The idea that team was miles better is rubbish.
Johnstone Hunts and Gally start. DJ in the team and can’t get a game now despite being in his prime years.

We never seen to do well against the bigger teams. I do dislike Lisa Nandy so I hope we well and truly stuff them even more.

Cheers PNE From Afar, like the Pie theme thread 🥮🥮 My memories of Wigan are stood on the mudbank of an away end one Tuesday night, JT scored and we won 1 0, the very same night my beautiful niece was born The despicable (IMO) James McClean always seems to kick off against us, seem to remember a recent debacle with Alan Browne and Will Keane who was ‘the next big thing’ when on loan to us never fulfilled the promise and is usually one to watch Sadly armchair fan (again 😫😫) for this one as arm still in a ‘soft pot’ with multiple wires sticking out Work regularly in Wigan and the people are salt of the earth but we so urgently need a performance and a home win as that current stat is embarrassing 1 0 Browne

px 6 on returning to the Champ we finished 11th , 11th, and then 7th and 7th with s quad that was making progress for 4 seasons under Grayson and producing more attractiver watchable football scoring 65 goals one season. This lot has just reached 10 at home thia season. Had it not been for the pre-Nov away wins we woould now be in the relegation zone.

Thanks Afar for doing the thread. Excellent stuff.
I’m not about much at the moment as I’m busy with work and also fully training for Manchester Marathon, so out running 5 days a week. 15 miles tomorrow morning so forgive my absence please!
Hoping for but not expecting 3 points tomorrow, suspect 0-0!
If DJ doesn’t start in CAM, I may just come home.

My only trip to Wigan was in the 1971/72 season with Stafford Rangers in the Northern Premier League Gordon Milne was their player manager and they also had David Wilson ex PNE Stafford were the best non league side in the country then and they won the league scoring 91 goals and the FA Trophy beating Barnet 3-0 and I can say without doubt they were better to watch than us this season as for today match probably 1-1 but won't be attending

Wigan a slightly different proposition right now. Will hinge on our attacking threat so DJ must play.

HT 0-1
Diaby an accident waiting to happen. DJ hasnt made one tackle all half. Jogs around with no purpose and pointing to other players. Ledson lost the ball but there where plenty of players behind him.
Not looking good.

Playing the team with the worst defensive record and not one shot on target not in any trouble untill Ledsons cock up what the hell do they practice in training I don't know but it doesn't involve any creative interplay in the last third

Just watched the highlights from first half. Diabi gets turned far too easily and goes for the block after the guy has shot.... Other than jogging around, DJ doesnt feature in the high lights.
