Think we got Relegated the following year but had a great Youth Team that lost in the Final vs West Ham? Then we lost the Cup Final in 1964 with the best of these players, who got poached away & they decline set in. Peter Thompson went to Liverpool & Howard Kendall to Everton, where he was part of the Holy Trinity in Midfield with Ball & Harvey. Happy days |

With respect only Howard Kendall from the 64 Cup Final team was poached away (and he would not have played but for Davidison's stupidity). Dave Wilson did have a short spell at Liverpool but quickly returned to us. Apart from a couple of giant killing performances in the Cup ,that team never reached those heights again and quickly disintegrated .
I could never understand how my hero, the Black Prince, went downhill relatively quickly. He was only 27 when he moved to Bury.

Absolutely. Referee had a good view too but didn’t give it. Penalty all day long. Watched on TV and in real time I could see it being given, when you look at the replay and with it slowed down it was a lot clearer should have been given. We dodged a bullet with that one. I think with VAR it would have been overturned and therefore given. I agree it could have been given with VAR which thankfully we don't have as the premise of clear and obvious errors has been totally disregarded. FWIW i thought the Ref got it right because the way the guy fell was totally unnatural. Our defenders & defenders in general to need to be a bit savvier as you only get away with that so many times before being punished, especially as forwards look to go over with the slightest of contacts. |

I think that when Alex Dawson left, i was 12 or 13 and that was the first time it really registered about one of my heroes leaving PNE, after that Players like Hannigan, Gemmill, Lyall, Morley, Hawkins, Knighton, Heppolette left (not in any order and i will have missed some) but it was when Michael Robinson left that i realised that this would always be the way with PNE! |

Top flight games we have played lots of top flight teams in the FA Cup great matches The Arse at home going 2-0 up John Thomas doing them lol alright lost 2-4 but they did have french WC Winners Emanuael Petit et al Spurs 1967 I think 2-1 Black prince scored and Ernie Hannigan flick up
Forest 3-0 Derek Temple brilliant dribble from halfway line forget what year
Even under Westley beat Palace 4-1 in league cup night match took may mate doesnt like football but impressed with atmosphere !
Yes I know not First Div or EPL fixtures but they were top flight clubs .
UTW DTTB coming soon wish I was there at Gloomfield !

That Derek Temple goal is probably the best individual goal i ever saw from a Northender. I was (almost) 14, it was 1969. I think we played Chelsea in the next round. That Forest Team was in the era of Ian Storey-Moore, a top player but i can't remember if he played or not. |
