PNE V WBA Wednesday 05/10/2022 Deepdale Stadium KO 7.45pm Fortunes so farNorth End play host to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening looking to end a four-match winless streak in the Championship. I’m fact North End haven’t won at home this season and the baggies haven’t won away so forgive me if I suggest a draw. Over the last 6 games North have picked up 6 points to Albion’s 4 which explains their lowly league position of 21st. Could a North End win trigger another visit to the potting shed for Bruce? TeamsLowe may opt to make changes in the final third with Troy Parrott in line to return. McCann and Ben Woodburn are also alternatives with Ched Evans potentially dropping down to the substitutes' bench. Andrew Hughes will hope to return to the squad after missing the trip to the Stadium of Light through illness. As for West Brom, Tom Rogic should retain his place in central midfield after coming through 57 minutes on his debut versus Swansea. However, Okay Yokuslu and Jayson Molumby are alternatives in that area of the pitch, while Karlan Grant will expect a recall in place of Brandon Thomas-Asante. Memory matchPNE 3-0 WBA Saturday 7th February 2004. Scorers: Lewis, Healy, Alexander. Team: Lonerghan, Alexander, Broomes, Jackson, Mears, Etuhu, McKenna, Cresswell, Healy, Fuller. Att 16539 Great game they were 2nd in the league we were 8th. Very gusty. My back garden fences blew down that night. Michael Keane replaced Etuhu early doors and played a blinder. Lewis was a magician from set pieces. The bookiesThe bookies has Albion as slight favourites which I find intriguing. Baggies fans predictions: boards.footymad.net/showthread.php?t=38296236 I think we’ll send Bruce to the potting shed. Enjoy the game. FormationIs 3-4-3 the answer to unlocking the goalscoring door?

Swift and Wallace, no chance we’re keeping a clean sheet and no way we’re scoring more than 1. 3-1 defeat with Swift MOTM.

Ordinarily I avoid predictions, having never developed any facility for seeing into the future, but I am optimistic about this game. On paper WBA have some 'names'. Swift, Wallace, Grant etc but it's quite clear that they have not been functioning well and there's lot of dissatisfaction amongst the Baggies faithful.
I've read a lot of criticism of Lowe/North Ends side...I wish as much attention was being paid to the defensive qualities...best since BD days. It's not as if we are not creating chances. Biggest disappointment to me has been set pieces. We have some height in there and really ought to be doing better. We certainly need more movement and bodies getting forward. I'm confident that when we get one the goals will come..and we are due a break. I just wish Lowe would not fiddle with the side and start with DJ...we know what he can do when he puts his mind to it.
I'd like to see
Woodman Storey Lindsay Hughes Brady Whiteman Browne McCann Fernandez DJ (if not DJ then Potts) Riis
....and as much as wouldn't advocate anybody losing their job it wouldn't surprise me if Bruce has gone before midnight.
Keep the faith.

For me, this is a defining moment in the season. A game we simply have to win - not in terms of the season's outcome, but just to give the place a bit of a lift, to get Lowe smiling and to get a few supporters back on board. I've reflected on the Sunderland game and would draw a few conclusions:
1) If Lowe thinks Evans is the answer, the question must be, 'who is the most useless player in the squad?' Please Ryan. Never play him again. Awful. 2) I liked the formation - 3421 - but Riis as a 10 didn't work, on occasions we were in a position to thread a through ball in, but sadly Evans was the target. Not his fault he can't run, so would prefer Riis as the 1 in this formation, but more of a 343 would be my approach 3) Ledson needs to play higher up the pitch if he plays. Or Whiteman needs to be more adventurous in getting foward and trust Ledson to mop up if needed. On occasions on Saturday, Whiteman looked a threat, but Ledson tends to look more for the killer pass. 4) Brady in midfield makes sense, but play him on the left. His right foot is as much use as my left! 5) Get Maguire in. He won't ever score again, but he does create space and chances for others.
343
Woodburn (looks a class act to me. Reservations about his size have been assuaged as he is such a good communicator)
Storey, Lindsay, Hughes
Potts Ledson Whiteman Alvaro
Parrott Riis Maguire
It's an attacking 343, could easily change it so more of a 352 by playing Brady or DJ ahead of Maguire, but I'm going for it.
So for me, a line up of 343
With all this in

Dont agree about Ched 100% everytime and certainly not useless , I think all the players we have can contribute to a rennaisance season UTW DTTB 343 Sounds attacking and good

I would like to see us on the front foot from early on rather than being tentative and feeling our way into the game. If for once, we could go 1 or better still 2 up early on with our defensive record West Broms heads will go down. The Problem is due to the poor recruitment we don't have too many options to change or freshen things up. I would play DJ and hope he finds his spark but bring Woodburn on after an hour if he's not doing it. I don't think you can play Brady on the right as he is too left footed (quality one, mind). So, for me, its: - Woodman Storey - Lindsay - Hughes (Greg if not fit)
Browne - McCann - Whiteman - Fernandez or Brady
D.J.
Riis - Parrot.
Personally, i don't think Alan Browne has the guile and craft to dictate a game in Centre Midfield but he has got a good engine, is mobile and grafts, i.e.puts a shift in. He has the attributes to be a good RWB, with no reason why his eye for goal should be diminished by coming in from wider. Hopefully we can reboot our stuttering start tomorrow night with a good win!!

I just hope the Baggies players are looking to get rid of SB, if so i can see us actually scoring (probably an own goal :-) ) and gaining the 3 points we need.

If that's a comment about RL then it totally ignores the fact that we have the best Defence in all 4Divisions. The last time we had such a tight Defence was when we had Pickford on loan. 7 games without conceding if I remember correctly. If anyone thinks it is easy to coach a Defence then please offer your services to Klopp. RL has done an extraordinary job so far. The fact is that it is easier to coach a Defence than an Attack & most Managers do start at the back and then work on the Attack. I am not at all concerned by our current situation, no-one outplays us or hammers us. The Forwards are not scoring & it is an issue but one that I am sure will be addressed. Rovers have conceded 14 in 11 games, Reading 15. They are fancied teams for Promotion but other teams can take them to the cleaners. Whilst Footie is an entertainment game, most fans prefer their team not to lose. 4 goals against in 11 games is remarkable.

We’re remarkable at both ends of the pitch. Goals conceded but equally goals scored. No team has scored nor conceded fewer in the top 4 divisions

Where are we going, Wally? Forwards. Defence is well organised 1st step. We are competitive, 2nd Step. 3rd step is to get Midfield sorted and RWB - think this may be Browne now. Finally, & provided we are still in with a shout in January, Attack re-in forced. Only my opinion & understand everyone's frustration but Rome wasn't built in a day

Not like me, I am struggling to pick up the enthusiasm to go to the game tonight. I have had a couple of heavy weeks work wise and have enough stress. I can see me getting more stressed with going on as I cant see where the next goal will come from. Why dont we give youth a chance. Speaking to a Millwall fan the other day and he has the same opinion about Parrot, he is not ready for championship football.

walburghian, Agree with most that you state except the concerned bit 3 goals in 11 games has to concern most people including the manager but what worries me is his reluctance to try anything different as regards attacking formation it appears to be same old same old without learning anything when it is obviously not working

Good first half. Should be 2 up against a talented side. Excellent pressing. Formation looks better. Roy Keane in the crowd.

Good first half. Should be 2 up against a talented side. Excellent pressing. Formation looks better. Roy Keane in the crowd. I try to make midweek matches, but due to a very bad cold (possibly COVID) last week I felt with tonight's weather I couldn't risk worsening the chesty cough I have. On TV I thought we were excellent this first half against a very good West Bromwich front 6 and a goalkeeper on debut showing why he was selected. I like the fluidity tonight of the centre halves coming forward and others covering back without any gaps at the back. Could and possibly should be 3 up.

In the first half we can see why Alvaro is on loan. Looking good going forward (what a cross), but looks weak defensively.
Edit - I'll take that back 2nd half!
