What's happened at Wigan since Whelan sold it believing it was in good hands should be a salutary lesson to those who think the selling of PNE would be a good thing...but it won't be. Yet again a foreign owner has had deluded ideas as to what could be achieved and what it costs and, yet again, there's been a knee jerk reaction that will cost the club dearly in compensation and probably in getting in a new manager. Richardson is a decent manager who has done a competent job with the resources available to him.
Next to go? What's the odds on Appleton?

Don’t think that it matters if you think the Hemmings selling PNE is a good or bad thing, it will probably be happening sooner or later and what will be will be.

Club is available MM (have it on very good authority but I'd be putting someone in an invidious position if I said any more) but to the Hemmings considerable credit they are not willing to sell to anyone...got to have club's best interest at heart.
I'm inclined to think 'later' rather than sooner...nobody in their right mind would want to buy a club requiring such an input just to stay where it is and with little prospect of taking it any further given current football financing.
Own view is that the asking price won't be an issue ( always negotiable)....it's the running costs that's the problem.
Took Alams at Hull 10 years to find a buyer.

Would think that they wouldn’t find too many championship clubs with a smaller wage bill than PNE’s ?

There's quite a few Championship clubs with a smaller wage bill MM than the reported £22m in the last accounts....Coventry, Rotherham, both QPR and Reading last season, Millwall, Rovers was lower last season, Blackpool, Wigan, Hull.
Problem is that there very few, just 3, with lesser income (£12m)...PNE having the largest % differential between income and wages.
It's what happens when you have 36 ft pros....and why there's been a need to get it down this season.
======
Coaches, esp, pt ones are not on that much! Ex players are falling over themselves to get such a job.

I can never understand this, every time we look at a player people say ‘we can’t afford is wages’

That's what it has been Afar...utterly ridiculous situation to get into.....and what's worse an unbalanced squad. Currently it's 32 ...still way too large.

No they are not, not one of them. They have all been offered professional contracts even though some of them are still eligible for U19s. The remainder of the youth team/U19s will be on scholarship terms

People complain when we let our youth team go, people complain when we sign them to professional contracts. Can’t please everyone.

If you read the club accounts MM you may have some idea as to the first team squad wage bill.
I think there have been complaints over just one youth team player being let go....and they have not been overwhelming because many agreed with the decision.
In my view the number of youth team players offered contracts owes more to complaints over the lack of progression than any really good prospect being identified. I'd be surprised if more than one or two make it.
Likewise there are players in there first team squad on 'full' wages who should never have been offered contracts and they are also unlikely to get near the first team much if at all.

People complain when we let our youth team go, people complain when we sign them to professional contracts. Can’t please everyone. I’m not complaining at all, love to see the day when three or four make up the backbone of the team. There are ten of them in the first team squad, just can’t see that PNE will be paying them the sort of dosh that someone like Storey, Whitman or BFG will be getting. We are probably getting ten for the price of those three but unless they are getting some game time what is it about. I’m sorry if it offends but I see it as a squad of 22 plus 10 cheap options that the manager hopes he doesn’t have to play. I see the 22 man squad as average at best in quality but top end of the punch above your weight team’s. I find it hard to believe that our wage bill is not in the bottom six. I would like to see where it sits with the like of Rovers who as far as I know don’t now have failure money, have similar gate receipts and pay more in transfer fees. Just don’t really feel that we can say we have a 32 man squad in the true sense.

Wage bills
A consensus froma variety of sources
20/21 season PNE 14th highest payer
Clubs with lower wage bills
Bristol City Rovers.......total about £1m less than PNE Millwall Huddersfield Sunderlansd Wigan Luton Blackpool Coventry Rotherham
I've said it for a long time that the PNE wage bill is far from being the lowest in the Champ ...and that it is unaffordable. It's ridiculous...club with a £22m wage bill and generating just a £12m turnover.
As the auditors have also said for a long time the club is not financially viable without the support of the owners.
The On-Line brain dead contingent wanting Hemmings out should be careful what they wish for...but as I suspect most of them are about 12 years old I don't suppose one should expect better.

Lazy recruitment historically with the odd diamond has led us to this point. We’ve wasted so much dosh. How much did the Irish experiment cost?

Sadly I think we have gone about as far as we can (until the club is significantly better run or the funding is more equitably distributed).
I had it out with PR some years ago re the Irish recruitment .....being eligible to an Irish passport I have some interests.....to me the standard is no higher than the National League, at best. His argument was to cite Maguire and Browne...to which I responded neither came through the Irish League ranks (West Ham Academy and recruited at 16).... and that Horgan was sold for a profit.
You can't win with the man (a reason as to why I considered the recent forum would achieve little or nothing). In my view the agenda items approached the running of the club from entirely the wrong angle...it should have been focussed on value for money on and off the pitch.
No doubt the fact that the club has maintained its Champ status (always the biggest concern) would be cited as evidence that the club is well run and in good hands delivering value for money (with ST prices being quoted) when the real issue is how , on the same budget, is any progress to be made as opposed to continue to tread water and rack up internal debt.

Rovers wage bill is probably less because half the team have come through the academy, something we could only dream about.
