Tuesday evening sees Ryan Lowe's Lilywhites returning to Deepdale hoping for a significantly improved performance from Saturday's disastrous showing against our nemesis, Reading!
For me, the phrase 'sleeping giant' could be applied to Nottingham Forest. As a young lad growing up, my memories of players such as Tony Woodcock, John Robertson, Stuart Pearce and others make me remember this was a team who were once amongst European elite, even into the 1990s, players like Keane and Collymore were worth watching. Since then, they have been a club that basically have failed to deliver. A succession of managers have tried, and failed to get them back to the big time, despite some significant funding at times. When they appointed Hughton last season, I (like many I suspect) thought this was the perfect match and that he would bring the glory days back. What a disaster that turned out to be. Their early season form was absolutely dreadful and off he went, and since then they haven't looked back. I would not be surprised if Cooper took them up this season.
Recent Form and key players
3rd in the form table... last time out, they drew 2-2 with Stoke, with Bryce Samba getting a ridiculous red card. He will, I assume be suspended, which is a big loss for them. He's a good keeper.
Firepower - this is what worries me. The 12 year old Brennan Johnson, along with Keinan Davis on loan (I hoped we would have secured him) and Sam Surridge, will give our defence plenty to think about, while they also have good experience. Steve Cook, Jack Colback, Joe Worrall, James Garbutt and of course Lewis Grabban are all around. They're a good side and we will have to up our game.
Forest Memories
A few spring to mind... This goal!
And one game we were 3-0 up at Deepdale, the crowd chanting 'easy, easy', and Lonners turning round to the AKTE to tell us to shut up! Off the bench came Dele Adebola and I think we squeaked through 3-2
Finally, remember a SKY game away at Forest, when McKenna completely controlled the game against us as the demolished us 3-0 including a volleyed goal from Super Paul.
Predicted Team
433
Iversen
Sepp Bamba Lindsay Hughes
Ledson Whiteman
DJ
Sinclair Evans Archer
Played for both teams
Super Paul - one of my favourite all time PNE players. So underrated, and as soon as we sold him, we got relegated. Every player from that era talks about his 'standards' and expectations. Utter class.
Steve Elliot - I was young when we had this guy, but I remember being pretty star struck that we had signed a player from Forest. Anyone remember how we pulled that off as we were pretty useless at the time?
This lad. Legend
