The whole point of diversity is that the best person gets appointed for the job irrespective of any irrelevant consideration such as their ethnicity or gender.
The problem with oganisations that don't make any effort to diversify is that they end up recruiting people from their own social milieu, people who look like them and think like them...and in so doing lose on a pool of talent.
In a football club you also lose out on a huge pool of potential support. Where I sit on STF when you look around it's like God's waiting room for elderly white men. Does that represent the population of Preston and environs?
A manager is a figurehead for a club..the club personified if you like. It's about far more than coaching players.

What does this mean, surely being a good coach and ability to manage people, specially big ego footballers is of the highest priority?
I have always had a theory as to why there are fewer black managers, I think that they must be to smart to apply as they see 30 to 40 year old guys age 10 years for every year they are in the job.

Managers sell clubs MM..one of the issues with AN is that his demeanour would not inspire anyone. Think back to John Beck...I hated his football but his enthusiasm and public relations skills got crowds coming back and improved the atmosphere no end. McGrath did like wise. (And |I think that Covid has established the relationship between crowds and the players on the pitch.....the atmosphere, or lack of, has been poor at Deepdale for far too long now).
Of course the football comes first, but on any list of selection criteria there has got be media skills
Hence my point, a simple one...the club needs someone who can project a positive image...whether it will get such a person is another matter.

Nobody has suggested appointing a manager based on anything other than ability... Daws mentioned the white old man demographic of the board room, but nothing else anywhere. A. 100% certain nobody would be offended by your statement... best person for the job, bang on. Not sure on that Mooney. People nowadays are offended because grass is green. I think that’s untrue. A media invention and misappropriation of the word offended. I despise and am angered by much, but am offended by little and I genuinely believe made up media stories come into beliefs as truisms. 👍 |

Daws made 4 suggestions of names, Appleton, Moore and Robinson were his first three... all English. Struggling to see where people are coming from here. Confirmation bias at its finest I reckon. I’m still on Lee Carsley as my first choice btw. |

I'm not too concerned over the choice because as long as the useless Ridsdale is there and the club continues to operate under the same anachronistic structure the hands of whoever gets the job will be tied and the club won't make any progress on or off the field. . Come on Mooney, Mickypne, is right, I must be missing something if this post isn’t saying the club is badly run and it suggests that over 50 white males are to blame, most of it laid at the door of dawsonsjs, favourite fall guy. Ridsdale isn’t my favourite person either but to blame him for everything that is bad at the club just isn’t right. It goes on to suggest that we need to give some of these jobs to women and minority groups and the inference is that this is probably the only way to make us a better club. All this “fat chance” stuff is derisory to the club, I am sure that if a woman was the best option she would get the job. There isn't an inference MM, no need for that, it's a direct statement that the club's management is completely unrepresentative of the community and region in which it is based and that this leads to a self-fulfilling perpetuation of the same...in the process missing out on talent, failing to attract more support because of a lack of identification and consistently being behind the times with fresh ideas and developments.
Badly run? Well since TH takeover £tens of million shave been spent, internal debt has spiralled, the club is no further forward in the League, the ground remains unfinished, gates have not improved and we have now even got a weaker playing squad...without the current loans we'd be relegation fodder.
The internal structure is a muddle..board hardly ever seems to meet, nobody is clear exactly what PR does, not heard from the Chair since he was appointed, public relations have been a fiasco over Ingol, there's been no fan zone development (although breweries would prob jump at the opportunity to sponsor), commercial income remains abysmal and there has been no Academy improvement nor means of developing players beyond aged 18, hence progression into the first team has been negligible. For recruitment the club remains wholly reliant on the transfer market, but it cannot compete on fees for good players and the recruitment of cheaper players requires good football judgement. This has been so missing that we have ended up with a squad of L1 standard players.
An inability to run the proverbial brewery outing comes to mind.....and what any new manager has to contend with, which is why I am not too hung up on who gets the job because without far more fundamental changes everything will remain the same.

I like to think that I am a fair minded person and I am 100% behind equal opportunities but it is just my opinion that we are getting to a state where opportunities are being given to minority groups for the wrong reasons.
I stick with what px and mickey offered earlier, best person for the job.
I’m fed up of the Ridsdale stuff now also, I am 100% convinced that he does exactly as he is instructed to by Hemmings and as such he isn’t going anywhere soon, but hey! Who knows, one way or another Hemmings could hand over total control to his son and things may change drastically.
I think that it is time for another break until actual football starts again.
