Thought Riis was the best of a bad bunch. Ledson's still recovering from the works Christmas party.

Ripley 5...although he does not command his box and punched when under pressure he stopped a couple and wasn't at fault for the goals Rafferty...4, bit anonymous, never seemed to get forward in support Storey ....2 out of his depth, never got tight enough, lost his man Hughes 3...looked what he is, L1 defender, too easily beaten Earl 1....for turning up Potts 5..tried to get things going, ran around in the second half but nothing came off Malumby...3 understandably looked a bit lost Ledson 4..tried to play the ball forward in the first half but disappeared as the game went on Bayliss 2....completely ineffectual Stockley 2....another one who looked like what he is, a L1 or 2 player, contributed next to nothing Riis 4..tried, made some decent runs but ball never came to him, won the pen and slotted it away
Fisher 6 made a difference both defensively and going forward Browne..4 anonymous Hunts 4 did tighten things up a bit, but not much Maguire 3...no impact st all
Alex Neil 0
...3rd year in a row fielding weak team and getting knocked out in the 3rd round ....not preparing the team properly (fast asleep at the start) ---- starting with a lb at cb when he had an expereienced cb on the bench - completely changing the defence (something no competent manager should do) -- being unable to improve the performance with changes --- making necessary subs too late ---fielding two cfs but no winger (who was supposed to play the ball to them?)
Just how bad can you get?

Hadn't realised Riis had failed to make the grade at Derby a couple of years ago. Thought he was a genuine PR discovery.

I hate it even more when they don't try. It was an embarrassing performance all round. Just glad I'm not going to be watching them until the cad leaves.

Riis is a decent player , in and bloody out of the team. Start him , bin stockley then use Barky sinclair and another winger around him. Riis has lots of ability. Hardly starts and has 3 goals to his name. Stockley and maguire get more starts and what's their returns

PR signings as is AN. He's the one that needs to go. Never accepts any responsibility. Never apologised for Westley's appointment.

Just how bad can you get? For once I agree with you Daws although I would have down graded Hughes and Rafferty . Did not think they were any better than Storey so 2 rating . The selection was very disappointing . Looking at it before kick off you did not need to be a genius to figure that out Hughes is not a cb . He can play in a back three but is not good enough n a two . Earl, who I really like, needs to play with support behind him at the mo’ . Two good cb’s would do or as a wing back with three at the back . Rafferty has never been good enough at this level . If you play Storey you have to play a commanding challenge next to him . Young kid, not without potential but with zero minutes lately . The sad fact is that if I had posted this before the game and it was my first thought when I saw the team, many on this site would have agreed . Unfortunately AN could not see it . I am a supporter of AN but Evans, now this disaster and you begin to think !!!

AN not holding back, given them a bit of a deserved mauling:
Well, to be honest the game was done after 30 minutes. We spoke about stopping crosses and Ikpeazu - after eight minutes we got too tight and he gets a penalty. The simple fact is, we gave numerous opportunities to players who haven't been playing of late, and people ask why they haven't been playing, and I think it was quite clear why some of them haven't been playing. When they have been playing they haven't done well enough, and I think that was apparent in the game. So as I said to them after, they shouldn't have any complaints if they aren't in the team for the next game.

Interesting that as per usual AN seems to take no responsibility for the rubbish show today. 🤷♂️ I can’t disagree with his comments too much, he has a point but lumping all the blame on the players probably won’t do him any favours in the long run. Struggling to remember the last time we put in a good performance. Oh well onto the next one. 👍

Neil: "People ask why they (players given a chance) haven't been playing and I think it was quite clear why today."
So Mr Neil, now explain if you think so little of them why did you then pick them to play altogether?
Talk about blame the players and absolve yourself...what it was Alex Neil is bl**dy awful unacceptable inept management.

So, if you follow the AN line of thought and bearing in mind his woeful Cup record with North End, he deliberately sabotaged our Cup run this year to expose the known deficiencies in his selection. Sorry, cannot accept that and neither should the"powers that be".

I know they're bottom but they're still no mugs, they've got draws at some good places this season and historically they've done well in the fa Cup. Them players today were pathetic, but Neil picked them and left maguire and browne and the bench. Took walker from Carlisle to leave to take him to Wycombe and not even give him 10 mins but gave stockley 90? That peed me off tbh.

It’s an easy out for a manager who shows little desire to do well in the FA cup. Can we just opt out of the FA cup next season to save this pantomime. 🤷♂️ Players need a run of games in order to hit their stride, they need to be played to their strengths in the correct positions, AN sets some players up to fail IMO. Ok I do agree there are a few that are league 1 standard but even so today was a terrible performance. Now the board are starting bring new players in and being pro active (by our standards) it’s going to be even harder to shift the blame from AN although I bet people will still try. 🤷♂️

Earl's place in the team cannot depend upon good CBs. A few fancy stepovers and a yard of pace going forward are nothing compared tp his lack of aggression, very poor positional sense and his inability to learn from his inept defensive displays. Playing him as a WB still exposes these weaknesses. In a way he reminds me of another local lad who we all hoped could step up, Will Hayhurst. Sadly I don't think Josh can and will in the Championship.
