Youths won 3-0 this morning, with goals from Striker Michael McClellan, left winger Will Hayhurst and full back Scott Leather.
Sadly, young Will suffered a broken leg during the game. This is his second leg break of the season. Really saddened by this and gutted for the lad as he is one of, if not the, brightest prospect we have.
Will, if you are reading, good luck coming back from this. Wonder if any PNE players have signed up?

Sad to hear about young Will mooney once is bad but twice in 12 months is horrendous for the kid. Anyhow on a happier note how are the kids playing not been to watch them this season.

I just hope that he gets a contract despite this latest setback. The lads started the season terribly but are unbeaten in ages. Don't know how many of 2nd years will get contracts, but in the frame could well be Comrie, James, Holtom, Devine, Clucas, Hayhurst, Clarke, McLellan, Dudley, Osobe...others such as Scott Leather may miss out, but it'll be tough for PB to decide.
One to watch is a very young left back called Ben Davies - he's an Under 16 who has featured in Under 18s, scoring a super goal away at Tranny a few weeks back.

Just been reading the report on the match but cant find any reference to his leg actually being broken. Newroader, Conor McL tweeted that it had been on Will's FB page that the leg was broken and that he would be in a pot for 6 weeks, when they'd be able to scan for ligament damage.

PB tried to blend in a few youngsters. Leather, Divine, Clark, Miller, Clucas, Proctor, Douglas etc. I particularly liked Divine and Miller. I know many are playing at a lower level now. Did PB give Conor McLoughlin his debut.

Just browsing t’other site and the rumour is that four youth players have been offered contracts, also it was said that the youth league will be U-19 from next season, every little helps?

You'll be telling me next the club is learning...just hope these kids are good enough because I've no doubt there'll be a lot riding on their progress. Anyway if it's true, well done to them.

Holland Wilkinson is one I am pretty sure based on something his dad said... 😂 Lewis Coulton probably another (LB) and Rodwell Grant are the 2nd years that look the best bet. All the other lads with real potential are the year below, Bennett and Leigh are 1st years and I may be wrong but Mawene’s lad is a year younger still!

Risk free for signing them on for a few years. They’ll cost peanuts, send them out on loan to a league club preferably and see what becomes of them.
If we’d done that with Dolan we’d of had a decent player to have around.

There's a couple of them who are decent and they wernt playing for the youths yesterday. The lad mooney says is one, Rodwell grant is another, these two get the goals. Mawene some might be another .

Dolan wasn't going to be near the 1st team. Someone like Rodwell grant could be , we don't have a young rookie striker about. It appears he been impressive in the youth. Plenty of goals .

Mawene is same age as my lad (ie, still at school and not even U18 yet!) It’s probably Olly Lombard the keeper. I have played cricket against him, he’s an Euxton lad and very useful. Bowls quick... will try and find out!

Reading the other site, sounds likely that it will be Holland-Wilkinson, Coulton, Rodwell-Grant and the keeper (who by the sounds of it had nearly given up on a pro deal here and was looking at uni courses).

Yea Dolan might not of been near the first team. But where’s the harm in signing him up and sending him out on loan? If the attitude to signing youth players is ‘they aren’t going to be first team next season’ we might aswell shut it the youth team down and save our money. Where’s the forward thinking?

Problem is, players maybe without a huge connection to Preston are starting to see the club as having a poor pathway to first team football (Dolan). No u23s and we struggle to loan players out to league clubs, our poor level of youth team makes it difficult to judge and therefore league clubs don’t seem to believe they will be good enough. If you’re in the current youth set up and you’re looking at Baxter, O’Reily, Hudson, is that giving you confidence for what you can strive towards? Hopefully it was Neil not trusting the young lads and a new manager can get the young lads believing they have a chance.

Subsequently he has said he would not have signed one anyway...easy to say! Ah right , can't believe we didn't offer him one. However, time will tell.i suppose but he's had a promising start. Still he wouldn't have got near our 1st team , 1. We've loads there and 2. Neil wouldn't have touched him as he's too young. Ideally, a loan out to league 1 would have been good for both.
